The Smart Custom Fields for Jira app is the easiest way to add the most useful fields and field types to your Jira instance!

Overview

Easily add the most useful custom fields, and custom field types to your Jira instance! Our app provides many fields that you can use to plan and work more efficiently as a team.

Fields

A number of pre-configured custom fields are available for your immediate use. These include:

• Rating - allows users to rate a work item from 0 to 5 stars
• T-Shirt Size - allows users to give a rough sizing estimate to a work item, using the familiar t-shirt size analogy

To add an existing field to a screen you will need to perform the following as a Jira admin

1. Navigate to Settings -> Work items, and select Screens in the left navigation bar.
2. From here, find a screen you wish to add the custom fields to. Click the ... button in the Action column, and select Configure
3. In the Select Field drop-down menu, select the field you wish to add. You can optionally move the field up and down in the list.
4. You should now see the field on the screen(s) you have chosen.

Field Types

This app also provides a number of field types that can be used to create your own fields, and define them on your screens:

• Progress Bar - users can move a bar to show any value from 0 to 100. This is useful to portray a level of confidence, completion, or a timeline.
• True or False - a user can clearly mark a value as either a True or a False value.
• Yes or No - users can definitively mark a value as either a Yes or No.

To create a new custom field using one of these types, you will need to be a Jira admin, and perform these steps:

1. Navigate to Settings -> Work items, and select Fields in the left navigation bar.
2. Click the Create new field button in the upper right.
3. Select the field type you wish to add. Give it a name and an optional description. Click Create
4. You should now see your new custom field in the list. Click the ... button in the Actions column, and select Add field to screen
5. Select which screen(s) you want the field to appear on, and click Update
6. You should now see the field on the screen(s) you have chosen.

Use Cases

• Add the T-Shirt Size custom field to any screen in our Jira instance to create high-level sizings for issues and epics. Easily change the value by editing the value and selecting the new T-Shirt Size.
• Add the Rating custom field to rate any issue on a 5-star basis. The field is easily changeable to change the rating to any value, or remove completely. Use JQL to query and filter your issues based on ratings.
